ABOUT MARTY MCGUIRE: NASA JPL SOLAR SYSTEM AMBASSADOR
Marty is an amateur astronomer and lifelong aeronautical & space enthusiast in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Marty has been to two recent “NASA Social” events: NASAsocial @ Kennedy Space Center Dec 2015 (for the ISS ULA/Orbital ATK/Cygnus re-supply mission) and the NASA Goddard/James Webb Space Telescope Media Event Jan 2016. Marty has met and interviewed members of the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) team at Goddard, and is thrilled about what new discoveries NASA will find in the years to come. Marty is passionate about sharing his knowledge & resources with both children and adults.
WHO ARE SOLAR SYSTEM AMBASSADORS?
The Solar System Ambassadors Program is a public engagement program that works with motivated volunteers across the nation to communicate the excitement of NASA’s space exploration missions and information about recent discoveries to people in their local communities.
As of 2018, there are over 900 volunteers in 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands and US citizens living abroad. Since the program started over 20 years ago, SSAs have run over 40,000 events serving over 9 million people directly!
To arrange for a Solar System Ambassador event in your community, click the Directory tab, select your state or territory and review the Ambassadors’ biographies detailing their areas of interest and expertise. Following the biography is a list of events conducted by the Ambassador to further aid in decision making. Ambassadors can also be found via last name. Inquiries about an Ambassador’s availability should be made by sending an email directly to the individual. Check the Event Calendar as well to see if an Ambassador event will be occurring in your local community.
The Solar System Ambassadors Program is sponsored by the JET PROPULSION LABORATORY in Pasadena, CA, an operating division of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and a lead research and development center for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
